Overview

TrueAbility provides AbilityScreen, a technical assessment platform that measures candidates' real-world skills by testing them in cloud-based live server environments. The product assesses candidates on technologies, platforms, vendor certifications and industry standards to show objective, job-relevant ability. TrueAbility emphasizes cloud-centric, hands-on tasks rather than phone screens, written tests, or whiteboarding. The company plans to expand AbilityScreen into new vertical skill sets, grow customer acquisition, and add hires in development, marketing, recruiting and HR channel relations. Financially, TrueAbility announced a $2 million Series A to fund that roadmap; earlier seed backers include Rackspace Chairman Graham Weston and co-founders Patrick Condon and Dirk Elmendorf. As part of the raise, Austin Ventures partner Thomas Ball will join the company's board. TrueAbility is a recruiting technology startup whose flagship product, AbilityScreen, is a cloud-based technical assessment service used to evaluate technical job candidates. AbilityScreen places candidates in a live server environment to test their ability to solve real issues and to measure critical thinking, resourcefulness, and adaptability—contrasting with phone screens, written tests and in-house break-fixes. The platform is designed to assess candidates on the specific technologies, platforms, vendor certifications and industry standards relevant to hiring companies. TrueAbility was concluding a closed beta and targeted a public release in mid Q1 2013. Financially, the company announced a $750,000 seed funding round led by Rackspace co-founder Pat Condon and Graham Weston. CEO Luke Owen says the product aims to shorten the recruiting process, reduce cost per hire and help companies hire better technical talent.
