Overview

Tundra operates an online marketplace offering a large selection of wholesale products in the U.S., allowing independent retailers to purchase over two million ready-to-ship items from established and emerging brands and makers. The platform runs a zero-commission model that enables brands to offer their full catalog at wholesale prices with low minimums. Its proprietary technology automates end-to-end wholesale processes, reducing manual tasks and saving buyers and suppliers time and money. Tundra serves a community of more than 30,000 retailers across categories including kids, home, food, beauty, apparel, and general merchandise. Led by CEO Arnold Engel and based in San Francisco, the company plans to use the new funding to continue expanding operations and its business reach. Tundra is a zero-fee wholesale marketplace that allows suppliers to list products and buyers to shop through a B2C-like interface. The platform offers ratings, reviews and supplier performance metrics along with free shipping and easy tracking. Rather than charging transaction commissions, Tundra monetizes via optional premium checkout features such as faster shipping, order insurance and additional customs and logistics services for international orders. The company was founded by Arnold and Katie Engel after they ran Vox Supply Chain, and it aims to replace inefficient phone-and-paper wholesale processes and trade-show negotiations. Tundra recently closed a $12M Series A to fund execution and growth as it competes with larger platforms entering B2B e-commerce. The market opportunity is large—B2B e-commerce surpassed $1 trillion and incumbents like Shopify have acquired Handshake and Oberlo to address the space.
