Overview

TuneUp is an app that cleans up iTunes and Windows Media Player libraries by correcting song information, providing missing cover art, and other metadata fixes. After TuneUp Media shut down, founder Gabe Adiv formed GMGP LLC, acquired TuneUp's assets, rehired some team members, and relaunched version 2.48 of the app. The company says it will prioritize stability and its core features after a problematic 3.0 release last fall. Adiv said GMGP was funded by outside investors and himself, but he declined to disclose amounts or investor identities. The team intends to pursue integrations with services like Pandora and Spotify in the future while continuing to support the existing mobile song-identification app (with no further development planned). As part of the relaunch, TuneUp is offering a 30 percent discount with promo code RELAUNCH14. TuneUp Media publishes TuneUp, a plug-in for iTunes that offers digital music management and discovery via acoustic fingerprint technology and features such as artist bios, news, music videos, concert alerts and social integration. The company says it will use new funding to develop a suite of new products, build out the team and increase marketing spend. TuneUp has recently added Greg Nuyens as CTO and Tim Mitchell as VP of Product Management. The funding described was a $2m second close of its Series C, provided by existing investor IDG Ventures. That second close brings the Series C total to $6.3m and raises the company’s total financing to $8.5m to date. The company is based in San Francisco, CA and was founded by CEO Gabriel Adiv. TuneUp Media provides a plug-in for iTunes that corrects song metadata and offers a suite of music discovery features. Its product includes personalized concert alerts, music videos, artist bios and news, plus Twitter and Facebook integration. The company reports over 1.5 million registered users. TuneUp says the new funding will support its vision of offering improved music management tools and discovery resources for music collections worldwide. CEO Gabriel Adiv said the round will allow the company to expand its product line and bring new innovations to users. TuneUp was founded by Gabriel Adiv and Raza Zaidi in 2007 and is based in San Francisco.
