TuneWiki is a social music player that leverages song lyrics to connect music fans with new products and experiences. The company offers apps for iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and Nokia handsets. TuneWiki says it will use the new investment to expand its product offerings for mobile platforms and the Web. It plans to continue focusing on novel uses of song lyrics, including an upcoming mobile game. The company has previously attracted investors such as Benchmark Israel and continues to build its mobile and web presence. TuneWiki provides user-generated song lyrics and synchronizes them karaoke-style to music playing on PCs and mobile devices, including jailbroken iPhones. The service launched in December 2007 and quickly gained traction, with “hundreds of thousands” of downloads to jailbroken iPhones according to sources. The site also functions as a legal lyrics wiki, and Universal Music has permitted usage. Its syncing software is positioned as the core product that could be monetized and turned into a real business. The company is led by founders Amnon Sarig and Rani Cohen, both former Israeli fighter pilots. TuneWiki has begun fundraising activity, having secured an initial financing round from Benchmark’s Israel fund.
