Turnover Labs

New York, 10011, United States

Overview

Turnover Labs develops electrolyzer technology that converts waste carbon dioxide from petrochemical plants into carbon monoxide for use in chemical processes. Its core innovation improves catalyst adhesion to electrodes and combines specialized chemistry and software to let electrolyzers tolerate contaminant gases present in industrial CO2 streams. This allows the company to avoid costly gas purification by operating on impure waste streams and producing a feedstock chemical used in petrochemical reactions. The approach targets on-site CO2 reuse as an alternative to capture, transport and underground sequestration. The company grew out of founder and CEO Marissa Beatty’s doctoral research into electrolyzer durability and from a fellowship with Activate. Turnover Labs recently raised a $1.4 million pre-seed round to hire engineers and simulate real-world gas streams as it iterates toward a robust industrial product.
