Tuurnt is an app that enables users to plan parties, announce a cost, and have friends chip in to attend. The product is already gaining traction on college campuses through a grassroots marketing strategy. Students, clubs, frats and other groups use the app to raise money for events and even to help pay rent. Hosts can earn up to about $1,000 per party, and the platform is being used for wine tastings, dinners and other gatherings. Founder Fabrice Mishiki created the idea after a trip to Toronto and is running the beta and campus growth efforts. To date the company has raised $150,000 to beta the product.
