Overview
TVShow Time is a social platform for TV-show enthusiasts that lets users track progress, comment, vote for characters, view calendars for upcoming episodes, and discover top-rated episodes. The site recently added a deep Put.io integration that enables in-browser playback with a central Play button, subtitle selection, fullscreen, and automatic preloading of the next episode. To stream, users link a Put.io account and provide an RSS feed; the service scans their “to watch” list and adds episodes to the user’s Put.io account for playback. The article notes the streaming relies on a Put.io-based BitTorrent-fetching service (an Istanbul-based team) and that TVShow Time does not host the content itself, so the feature can be stopped if necessary. The team plans additional third-party integrations with services such as Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, iTunes Store, and StreamNation. TVShow Time reports hundreds of thousands of active users, handles onboarding via Facebook import, uses Algolia for search, is part of the incubator TheFamily, and has raised $500,000 to date.
