Tynt
229 W 28th St Fl 12, New York City, New York, 10001, United States
Overview
Tynt provides web publishers control over copying and pasting on their sites by automatically appending a unique, trackable link to copied text and offering analytics on copy behavior. The product monitors copying rates — the company reports about 2% of page views involve a ctrl-c copy (7% for news sites) — and surfaces which sentences or phrases are being shared. Publishers can add a widget showing readers what content is being copied. Tynt says its software is installed on sites totaling more than 10 billion page views per month, and that incoming partners this month will raise that figure toward 50 billion. The company also reports roughly 100 million monthly searches triggered by its feature for copies under seven words. For now the service is free, and Tynt plans to roll out new versions this year that the company says will bring in revenue. Tynt offers Tracer, a patent-pending service that monitors when users copy content from a website and automatically adds a URL back to the original content. Publishers install Tracer by inserting a single line of JavaScript into their site templates. The product is designed to both drive traffic back to original publishers and help measure which content engages users. Tracer was in beta and deployed on sites around the globe, used by close to 200 content publishers including news media and bloggers, some with up to 30 million page views per month. In its first two weeks of beta testing Tynt tracked over 250,000 user selections and copying actions and has recorded several hundred thousand user actions and copies of millions of words and images across hundreds of sites. Following the free beta, Tynt plans to roll out both a free and a paid premium service; the company has secured $3.9 million in Series A funding led by iNovia Capital and AVAC Ltd with angel investor participation.
