Overview
Austin-based Ube develops an IP-enabled smart-home platform that combines a mobile app (iOS and Android) with three IP-enabled devices. The app can virtually control over 200 IP-based devices and will support Smart TVs and set-top boxes at launch, routing commands through the home network or Ube’s Cloud for remote access. Ube is designing three pieces of hardware: a smart dimmer (32-bit ARM processor running Android), a smart plug that measures energy use and dims, and a smart wall outlet that measures energy, is 110/120V compatible and can withstand loads up to 1000W. The company plans to ship all three devices by the first quarter of 2013 and will run a Kickstarter campaign to raise additional funding. Retail pricing is planned at $60 for the smart dimmer and $55 each for the smart plug and wall outlet. To date the company has raised a $300,000 seed round to complete prototype hardware and the first revision of its mobile app.
