Ubicloud provides a managed service and an open-source stack that lets developers run core cloud services on bare-metal providers such as Hetzner, OVH Cloud, Leaseweb and AWS. The company’s current focus is on compute, a PostgreSQL database service and the networking primitives required to create public and private virtual networks, with attribute-based access controls included by default. Over time the team plans to add block storage and a Kubernetes-based container service to expand its platform capabilities. Ubicloud argues it can deliver a simpler developer experience and lower prices than hyperscalers by leveraging cheaper hardware and modern open-source data plane components. Early traction includes users running GitHub Action runners, long-running workloads and demand for its PostgreSQL service. The startup has 10 employees split between San Francisco, Amsterdam and Istanbul and recently closed a seed round.
