UBTECH is a Shenzhen-based bipedal and home robotics maker focused on consumer robots. Its product demonstrations have included a walking Stormtrooper robot released alongside The Last Jedi and a "robotic butler" with a tablet face unveiled at CES. The robotic butler was presented as more of a proof of concept with a promised broad 2019 release date. CEO James Zhou said the company will use new funding to accelerate its vision of bringing robots into the home. The company says the funding will be used for R&D, hires and expanding its global footprint. UBTECH is one of several companies pushing home robotics beyond the Roomba, though it remains less well known in the U.S.
