UnifyID

603 Jefferson Ave, Redwood City, CA, 94063, United States

Overview

UnifyID develops a behavioral biometric authentication platform that uses smartphone sensors (accelerometer, GPS, etc.) and machine learning to build profiles of users and verify identity. The company has shifted from a consumer Chrome plug-in and iOS app to selling an SDK and backend platform that companies can integrate into their apps. Its business model is to sell the SDK and charge on a per-API-call basis for authentication services. UnifyID says internal accuracy tests show the system is 99.999% accurate. The company is currently working with 10 business partners on the SDK and has 15 full-time employees. With the new funding it plans to scale engineering headcount to about 40 engineers within 6–9 months. UnifyID develops implicit authentication that builds a behavioral and sensor-based profile to replace traditional passwords. The system collects signals from devices, locations, sensors, walking gait and typing cadence to compute a likelihood score that it’s the legitimate user. Its initial product is being distributed in private beta as a Chrome browser extension paired with an iOS mobile app, with an Android app planned. The consumer-facing product is free as a showcase for the technology. User data is said to reside mostly on local devices and to be encrypted so the company cannot access actionable data. UnifyID plans to commercialize by selling the ability to embed its implicit-authentication technology to companies and has completed an undisclosed seed round.
