UnitedParents offers a downloadable Windows-only child-safety product that monitors children’s online activity. The beta initially monitors popular instant messaging apps (ICQ, AIM, MSN, Yahoo) with planned expansion to Facebook chat modules, email, and public chat rooms. The software tracks over thirty parameters to profile the people a child engages with and the relationships themselves. When it identifies a predator or bully it creates a fingerprint that is propagated across its network to track that person and alert potential next cases early. Parents receive alerts by email and, in urgent cases, via SMS that explain why the alert was sent. UnitedParents intends to market the consumer product to parents of 9–17 year olds and to offer the solution to social networks and online communities; the consumer product is planned to be priced under $100 when it officially ships in a few months. The company announced a $900K seed round concurrent with the beta availability.
