UNLESS Collective
2544 NW Upshur St, Portland, OR, 97210, United States
Overview
Unless Collective was founded in 2021 by Eric Liedtke and four former Adidas executives to produce plant-based, compostable streetwear and footwear. The company avoids polyester and uses materials such as cotton and corozo nut buttons, with products designed for industrial composting at end-of-life. It began as a direct-to-consumer brand, opened a 400-square-foot temporary store in downtown Portland, and is expanding into wholesale (including placement at Social Status). Manufacturing is regionalized: jackets in Portugal, T-shirts in the Carolinas, and hoodies in Los Angeles. The brand unveiled its first sneaker in December and is pursuing collaborations to build buzz. Founder Eric Liedtke said venture capitalists provided $7.5 million in early funding, and he has declined to name the investors.
