Zikooin Company produces Unlimeat, a plant-based meat made from overproduced grains discarded for imperfections. Unlimeat targets Asian-style formats for traditional Korean dishes such as bulgogi and sliced beef and the company has launched five product varieties: sliced meat, patties, minced meat, pulled barbecue, and meatballs. Its sliced meat is sold at Subway and Domino's Pizza in South Korea, and Zikooin recently introduced a vegan cheddar, entering the alt-dairy sector. The company has collaborated with convenience chain CU and plans exports to the US (expansion announced last April), Taiwan, Hong Kong, Mainland China, Vietnam, and Australia. Zikooin secured 28 billion Won (about $23 million), of which 6 billion Won is allocated to construct a new Clean Meat Factory expected to be operational by the first half of 2022. The planned facility will be one of Asia’s largest plant-meat factories: an 8,910m2 plant on 14,657m2 of land in Jecheon’s 3rd industrial complex, intended to expand production capacity and export share. CEO Min Keum-chae said the infrastructure investment will propel the company to leadership in the alternative meat sector.
