Overview
Uptycs is a Boston-area startup that uses telemetric data to help customers understand and prevent security attacks. It began primarily as a forensic security data solution for post-incident investigation and has expanded to cover proactive, reactive, predictive and protective security areas. The platform ingests telemetry from a diverse set of sources and is built from the ground up rather than as a bolt-on. CEO Ganesh Pai said the company saw triple-digit growth over the last year as the pandemic, remote work shifts and events like the SolarWinds hack drove customer interest and cloud migration. Headcount has grown rapidly — from 65 employees at the Series B to nearly 140 now, with a goal of about 200 by year-end — and the company emphasizes remote hiring and diversity (more than 50% of employees come from under-represented groups). Uptycs plans to continue building out expanded functionality across its security platform. Uptycs builds a security analytics platform that captures detailed system telemetry so security teams can review how detections occurred and how intruders moved through defenses. The company says its product addresses intrusion detection, compliance and audit, and incident investigation needs. Uptycs was launched in 2016 by founders who previously worked at Akamai and adapted large-scale debugging approaches to security. The startup reports customers signing seven‑digit contracts, which contributed to investor interest. It operates from the cloud and currently has 65 employees across an office in Waltham and two offices in India. The company plans to double its headcount over the next 12 months.
