Overview
Urania Therapeutics specializes in the identification and development of 'readthrough' compounds using a structure-based drug design (SBDD) approach. Its compounds aim to induce overcoming of premature stop codons during protein synthesis to restore production of full-length functional proteins. By targeting the decoding centre of the human ribosome, the company seeks therapeutic options for monogenic diseases such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy and cystic fibrosis, as well as certain cancers caused by nonsense mutations. Scientific founders include ribosome structure experts Marat Yusupov and Gulnara Yusupova of IGBMC in Strasbourg. Urania plans to use recent funding to consolidate capabilities, optimize proprietary compounds, and select drug candidates for further progression toward translation from bench to bedside. The company was created by Jean-Paul Renaud, who serves as president and CSO, and pursues precision-medicine approaches to address unmet medical needs.
