Overview
UserTesting offers an on-demand Human Insight Platform used by product teams, marketers, designers, and UX researchers to create and validate customer experiences. The company reports more than 2,000 subscription customers, has delivered insights to over 35,000 companies, and said its global business surpassed $100 million ARR. UserTesting launched its European headquarters in Edinburgh in July 2019 and says its European customer base grew 400% in the first year of operation. The company plans to ramp up product development, internationalize solutions for European markets, and improve core products and the participant experience. UserTesting also intends to leverage data and machine learning to deliver more efficient tools and processes. The company is headquartered in San Francisco with a growing product, design, and engineering presence in Edinburgh. UserTesting provides an on-demand Human Insight Platform that enables product teams, marketers, designers, and customer experience professionals to gather human feedback and make customer-first decisions. The company reports more than 1,500 subscription customers and says it has delivered human insights to over 35,000 companies to date. UserTesting has been recognized as an industry leader in user research (G2 Grid) and has appeared on multiple fast-growth and best-workplace lists. With the new $100M funding, UserTesting plans to expand its global footprint in Europe and Asia and build on its acquisition of Teston, a European multi-language user testing provider. It will also accelerate product development—particularly machine-learning-driven insights—and invest in go-to-market, global scale, and infrastructure to make the platform more powerful for new and existing users. The company is headquartered in San Francisco and is backed by investors including Insight Partners, Accel, OpenView, and Greenspring. UserTesting provides on-demand UX testing by recording videos of people interacting with products and answering scripted questions, with results available in hours rather than days. The company sells simple pay-per-test offerings (a 30-minute video for $49) and annual subscriptions starting around $225 per month, with pricing that scales by features and usage. It has about 30,000 customers, including Google, Facebook, The Home Depot, Amazon, and Verizon Wireless, and roughly 170 employees. Since launching in 2007 the business has grown into both SMB and enterprise sales, with revenues split roughly half between enterprise (which ramped in 2013) and small-to-medium businesses. UserTesting said it reached cash-flow breakeven before raising the new round. The company is marketing a mobile version of its service to capture feedback on tablets and smartphones and plans to use new capital to build staff and potentially pursue acquisitions. UserTesting operates a pay-as-you-go usability testing platform that records short videos of users testing products and mobile apps. Clients pay about $39 per video and can specify tester demographics; clients also rate testers for helpfulness. Over the past five years the bootstrapped company has grown to roughly 30 employees and attracted between 11,000 and 12,000 customers, including Home Depot, Sears, Zappos and Dell. Its mobile device testing approach has users hold their device under a camera while talking through their experience. The company plans to use new funding to expand abroad and scale mobile app usability testing. UserTesting was founded out of frustration with expensive lab-based testing and aims to provide lower-cost, rapid user feedback.
