Emdrupvej 54a, 111, Copenhagen, Hovedstaden, 2400, Denmark
Overview
Vaavud builds a low-cost, electronics-free wind meter that plugs into a smartphone headphone jack and uses soundwaves plus a mobile app to translate and aggregate windspeed measurements. The hardware is simple plastic and communicates via the phone's audio channel while the app collects, analyzes and maps measurements into a global dataset. The company plans to expand product features for its hobbyist users and develop services aimed at business and enterprise customers. It has attracted corporate interest, including a joint project with Swedish agricultural coop Lantmännen Maskin AB to build a custom solution for pesticide-safety compliance. Vaavud reports about 4,000 new measurements per week and has hired a PhD to improve its Android app and measurement-filtering algorithms. The recent seed funding will support faster expansion and further product and service development.
