ValTech Lifesciences is developing a next-generation prosthetic heart valve with patented features aimed at reducing thrombosis and extending valve lifespan. The company combines fluid mechanics and cardiovascular engineering expertise from the University of Bern to improve performance of both mechanical and biological prostheses. ValTech was formed as a spin-off project from the University of Bern by co-founders Shaokai Zheng and Professor Dominik Obrist. The startup plans to accelerate product development in collaboration with an industry partner. ValTech highlights the large and growing global market for heart valve prostheses, which was valued at USD 11 billion in 2021 and is projected to reach USD 25 billion by 2030. Financially, the company has secured a CHF 150,000 Venture Kick award to advance its product development.
