Vamo is developing a travel planning product that aims to let users book full vacations or business trips by optimizing interconnected elements like flights, hotels, and dates. Founder Ari Steinberg, a former Facebook engineer and manager who helped found Facebook's Seattle office, says the product tackles travel's “constraint satisfaction problem.” The company plans to use big data, machine learning, advanced algorithms, scalability, and distributed systems to solve those engineering challenges. Vamo came out of stealth after raising $1.6 million and currently has a four-person headcount. The funding will be used to recruit additional programmers and build the optimization engine.
