Vantage Discovery, founded by former Pinterest search leads Lance Riedel and Nigel Daley in 2023, builds a personalized commerce search engine for brands. The product combines large language models, image-identification AI and a custom vector database to merge semantic understanding of queries with a user’s personal style and retrieve targeted results across millions of items. It supports image-based queries (“show me more like this”) and can surface recommendations by tapping a shopper’s Pinterest profile. Customers retain control over ranking, and Vantage can re-rank results using custom models tuned to optimize retailers’ business metrics. The startup launched in early 2024, is earning revenue, and works with customers including Cooklist, Koodos, West.co and Bookopolis while also working with one of the largest retailers in the world. The founders say the platform supports RAG features and they plan to expand into AI-driven “merchandise tooling” to reduce manual work in product ranking.
