Overview

Vaporox is a Denver-based medical device company founded in 2016 that develops a patented ultrasonic therapy, Vaporous Hyperoxia Therapy™ (VHT), for diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). VHT has demonstrated the ability to heal approximately 85% of DFUs that were unresponsive to the current standard of care. The company targets a large clinical need—more than two million DFUs in the United States—where foot and ankle surgeons are the leading treating specialty. Bioventus completed a minority investment in Vaporox and will have Chris Yamamoto serve on Vaporox's board, signaling strategic commercial alignment. Terms of the investment were not disclosed, and Bioventus stated the transaction is not material to its business. Bioventus described the investment as a phased approach toward a potential acquisition and consolidation of strategic wound-healing assets. Vaporox develops the VHT device to treat chronic diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). Its VHT technology is FDA 510(k)-cleared and has demonstrated an 80% or better healing rate in clinical studies. The company plans a large-scale U.S. rollout beginning in early 2021. The $1.5M seed investment will be used to develop reimbursement processes for providers and to design a second-generation device. Vaporox worked with Innosphere for commercialization support, pitching to a large pool of angel investors and early-stage venture capital firms and winning two pitch competitions. The company graduated from Innosphere's incubator following the funding close.
