VarageSale operates a free online marketplace and mobile app that enables people to buy, sell, and connect within local communities. Local users act as administrators who moderate each community to ensure members have real identities and can transact in a safe environment. The platform is available at www.varagesale.com and on iOS, Android and Kindle devices. Founded in 2012 by CEO Carl Mercier and based in Toronto, the company intends to use the new funding for product development, community growth and expansion of its Toronto team. VarageSale raised $34M in funding in this round. Lightspeed Venture Partners and Sequoia Capital backed the round, and partners Jeremy Liew and Bryan Schreier joined VarageSale’s board in conjunction with the funding.
