Overview
Velodyne LiDAR is a global leader in LiDAR technology that develops hybrid solid-state LiDAR sensors for autonomous vehicles, ADAS, 3D mapping, and other commercial uses. Over the last decade the company has developed four generations of hybrid solid-state LiDAR systems that combine proprietary software and algorithms with laser-based sensors to create high-resolution 3D images. Its sensors produce 300,000 to 2.2 million data points per second, reach up to 200 meters, and deliver centimeter-level accuracy; products include the compact HDL-32E, the VLP-16 LiDAR Puck, and an upcoming "Ultra Puck" with HDL-64-like specifications in a smaller package designed for automotive use. Velodyne says its technology is recognized by global automotive OEMs and rideshare customers as a critical enabler of fully autonomous vehicles. The company expects an exponential increase in LiDAR deployments driving high revenue growth and plans to expand engineering, operations, and manufacturing to meet demand. In connection with the recent minority investment round, Velodyne plans to add two independent industry executives to its board.
