Velostrata
2880 Zanker Road, San Jose, CA, 95134, US
Overview
Velostrata builds software that enables enterprises to move production applications to and between public and private clouds by decoupling compute from storage. Its agentless, patent-pending technology moves compute to the cloud in minutes while controlling and automating where storage resides, avoiding image changes and lengthy replications. The company announced general availability of Velostrata 2.0, offering a non-disruptive approach for short-term use cases like development and testing as well as long-term migrations. Velostrata targets mid-to-large enterprise customers and plans to use recent financing to accelerate growth in that market. The company is headquartered in San Mateo, California, with research and development in Israel. Velostrata is backed by Intel Capital, Norwest Venture Partners and 83 North. Velostrata provides a hybrid cloud solution that separates storage from compute, enabling VMs to run in the cloud while leaving the underlying data on-premises. The product integrates as a plugin for the VMware vCenter console and adds a “run in the cloud” option for administrators. It streams VMs to the cloud using algorithms and caching to limit data transfer, allowing workloads to boot before the entire dataset is moved. The solution currently supports Amazon Web Services, with plans to add Microsoft Azure in a future release. Velostrata is in beta with roughly a dozen customers and has 25 employees, most in an engineering center in Israel, plus a business office in San Jose. The company plans to use the funding to expand U.S. business development, sales, and channel partner efforts ahead of general availability.
