Overview

Vence builds GPS-enabled wearable collars that let farmers draw digital pasture boundaries and keep cattle in place using a warning tone followed by a light electrical shock if animals stray. The collars attach in under 30 seconds and are priced at roughly $35 per animal per year, with worst-case battery life of six to nine months and up to two years in very large pastures. The startup says it has received over 5,000 inbound inquiries from producers globally and reports strong interest from roughly 5,000 farmers. Vence positions its product to reduce the labor and materials cost of temporary electric fencing while enabling rotational grazing practices that the company says can boost soil health and carbon sequestration. Management plans to use the new funding to build out sales and operations and to continue evolving the technology, including future features around fertility, health, and welfare monitoring for each animal. The company is based in San Diego and emphasizes both farmer quality of life and regenerative-agriculture outcomes. Vence develops an ear‑worn wearable that creates virtual fences for cattle, using warning stimuli (vibrations, sounds) and low‑voltage shocks to train animals to avoid restricted areas. The device also streams real‑time herd and individual animal health data to a mobile app. The company says its approach draws on research conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and MIT. Vence positions virtual fencing as a way to enable rotational grazing, improve soil health and carbon sequestration, and reduce fencing costs for ranches. The product is intended to allow more flexible grazing management while delivering operational data and new services for farmers. Vence has attracted early demand in seven countries from suppliers managing over 1 million head of livestock and plans to use new funding to bring the product to market and develop additional services.
