VentiRx is developing a portfolio of clinical-stage Toll-like receptor 8 (TLR8) product candidates, including VTX-2337 for oncology and VTX-1463 for allergic rhinitis. VTX-2337 is nearing completion of a Phase I clinical study in the U.S., and the company anticipates commencing Phase II studies in 2010. VTX-1463 has completed a Phase I study in healthy volunteers and a Phase IB proof-of-concept study in allergic patients. The company completed a $25M Series A extension led by MedImmune Ventures with support from existing investors. That extension, combined with a $26.6M Series A closed in March 2007, brings total Series A capital to $51.6M. Maggie Flanagan LeFlore of MedImmune Ventures will join VentiRx’s board of directors. VentiRx Pharmaceuticals is a San Diego-based company developing treatments for cancer, infection, respiratory, and autoimmune diseases. The firm’s pipeline spans oncology, infectious disease, respiratory and immune indications. The company announced a $28.9M financing to support its programs. Of the total, $26.6M was raised in a Series A and $2.3M came as seed funding. Investors in the financings were Frazier Healthcare Ventures, ARCH Venture Partners and Domain Associates.
