Verdant Robotics adapts navigation and autonomy technologies from autonomous cars and extraterrestrial systems to agricultural robotics. The company builds advanced robotic cultivation and ultra-precision spraying platforms delivered via a Robots-as-a-Service (RaaS) model. Its RaaS approach reduces customers' upfront CAPEX and shifts costs to OPEX, lowering deployment risk because vendors aren't paid if systems fail to perform. Verdant says the funding will scale production of its robotic cultivation technology and accelerate go-to-market programs. The company emphasizes addressing farm labor shortages and enabling regenerative and precision practices that support soil health, water conservation, carbon sequestration, and nutrient-dense crops. Verdant positions its platform as a tool to digitize the farm at sub-millimeter scale and provide growers with "superhuman" farming capabilities. Verdant Robotics offers a "multi-action" farming implement that combines computer vision, GPS navigation, AI and soil/plant science to perform high-speed weed removal, chemical application and real-time field indexing. Its hardware ships as a six-row or 12-row implement that attaches to tractors, can cover up to 4.2 acres per hour, and provides an in-cab interface and a digital twin of the field. The company operates on a robotics-as-a-service model and says its system has been rolled out across US farms over the last 18 months, scaling into thousands of hours operating every day. Verdant is contracted to service roughly 40% of the US carrot market exclusively for the next five years and lists other crops such as plums, cherries, apples, onions, garlic and peaches as targets. The team draws on backgrounds in self-driving cars, Mars rovers and hands-on farming to iterate in close partnership with growers. Verdant plans to expand grower partnerships immediately and commercialize a version of its system for orchard crops in 2023; to date it has raised $21.5 million from investors named in press coverage.
