Verdox

1-B Gill Street, Woburn, MA, 01801, United States

Overview

Verdox is developing an electroswing adsorption (ESA) electrochemical platform to capture and remove carbon dioxide from industrial emissions and ambient air. The technology, developed at MIT, couples electrochemistry with tunable organic chemistry to capture and release CO2 with high selectivity and without large heat or water inputs. Verdox says the approach can deliver up to ~70% energy savings versus conventional capture methods. The company plans to use the newly committed capital to develop and deploy its technology at scale for both point-source and direct air capture applications. Founders and technical leadership include CEO Dr. Brian Baynes, CTO Dr. Sahag Voskian, and scientific co-founder Prof. T. Alan Hatton, who sits on the scientific advisory board. Verdox published the underlying breakthrough in 2019 in Energy & Environmental Science and was founded in late 2019. The company launched publicly from Boston and positions its technology as a lower-energy alternative to existing carbon removal solutions.
