Overview
Artemis Health is focused on creating a fetal monitoring system that offers a safer alternative to traditional amniocentesis by using non-invasive prenatal diagnostics. The company has built its technology portfolio by licensing intellectual property first from Massachusetts General Hospital and MIT and, more recently, from Stanford University. The Stanford license is expected to enhance Artemis’s ability to identify trisomy conditions like Down syndrome more easily. After operating largely in stealth, the company is now running internal trials of its diagnostic products and anticipates launching its first product within a year. Its continuing R&D efforts are funded by a $20 million third funding round raised in September. Investors in that round include Sutter Hill Ventures, Alloy Ventures and Mohr Davidow Ventures. The fresh capital is being used to exercise the Stanford license and push the diagnostics program toward commercialization.
