Vertichem develops three specialty chemicals—lignin, xylose and cellulose—derived from hardwood chips. The company holds U.S. patents for its process of converting woody biomass into high-value specialty chemicals. It targets industrial, commercial, food, consumer goods and pharmaceutical markets seeking greener inputs and carbon-reduction improvements. The recent funding is intended to launch the newly formed enterprise and commercialize those patents. Chairman and CEO David Milroy said the investment will allow Vertichem to develop an innovative range of green-technology products to make everyday consumer goods “greener.” Vertichem plans to list on the Toronto Stock Exchange in Q1 2011.
