Overview

Viam provides an engineering platform that connects data, AI and automation to devices and smart machines, enabling hardware and software engineers to collaborate and build deployable solutions. Its software is used across robotics, quick-service restaurants, climate tech, marine, and industrial manufacturing. In 2024 the company expanded customer traction and announced partnerships including the New York Islanders and UBS Arena, Viking Yachts, Kongsberg Discovery, Sbarro, Transmutex, Appetronix, and CompScience. Viam plans to use new funding to accelerate global growth and deepen momentum in Europe, particularly in Italy. The company was founded in 2020 by Eliot Horowitz and is headquartered in New York City. To date Viam has raised $117 million. Viam offers a development platform that sits at the intersection of hardware and software, targeting robotics, IoT, smart homes, industrial automation and other sensor-and-actuator use cases. The company recently rebranded to broaden its outreach beyond robotics and now highlights verticals such as insurance and marine. Viam operates a Manhattan office with a lab space near Lincoln Center and has been onboarding enterprise organizations (names not disclosed). The startup launched commercially nearly a year ago and is actively expanding its headcount, which is about 100 people. Financially, Viam has raised a total of $87 million to date and will use new capital to fund R&D and ramp commercial enterprise deployments. Viam Robotics is developing a robotics platform that relies on standardized building blocks rather than custom code to create, configure and control robots. The company is building core components such as object recognition, navigation and gripping and offers an online testbed where new robot applications can be tested on demand without requiring upfront hardware acquisition. Viam was founded in 2020 by MongoDB co‑founder and former CTO Eliot Horowitz and has been largely operating in stealth. The platform is currently in private alpha with plans for a broader launch later in the year. Financially, Viam has raised prior funding including a $12 million seed in June of last year and is now announcing a $30 million Series A.
