Overview
Viamet is focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of novel antifungal agents built on its proprietary Metallophile® metalloenzyme medicinal chemistry platform. The Metallophile platform targets metalloenzymes (enzymes containing a metal such as iron, zinc or copper) and is intended to yield drugs with greater selectivity, fewer side effects and improved potency versus current antifungal agents. Its lead candidate, VT-1161, is an oral agent in Phase 2b development for recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis (RVVC) and onychomycosis. Additional programs include VT-1129, targeted for cryptococcal meningitis, and VT-1598 and related analogues aimed at invasive fungal infections. The company plans to initiate VT-1161 Phase 2b trials in dermatology and women’s health indications in the fourth quarter of this year and expects to begin clinical development of VT-1129 for cryptococcal meningitis in mid-2015. A $60 million Series D financing announced concurrently is expected to provide sufficient capital to fund operations through several important clinical milestones over the next number of years.
