Vibes is a dating app that replaces text-based messaging with short, pixelated video replies and requires users to select preferred pronouns and agree to a code of conduct on sign-up. The product intentionally removes text chat and semi-anonymity to encourage more authentic, in-person-like interactions and reduce abusive behavior. Moderation features include mandatory acknowledgement of whether each first message was acceptable, and videos are pixelated to lower barriers for shy users while preserving voice and mannerisms. The app asks new users to agree to a code of conduct that prohibits discriminatory or sexually explicit behavior and centers respect and authenticity. Vibes soft-launched in July and currently has a few hundred users. The company is operated by an all-women team led by CEO Jenais Zarlin, is free to use today, has $1.5 million in funding, and envisions developing a freemium model down the road.
