Overview
Vidyo offers the VidyoWorks software platform and APIs that embed real-time video, audio and content communication into clinical workflows and consumer-facing applications. The platform includes a FIPS 140-2 certified crypto-kernel providing HIPAA-compliant encryption and is used by enterprise customers, service providers, and ecosystem partners. Vidyo’s technology powers telehealth applications for more than 40% of the top 100 Integrated Delivery Networks in the U.S. and is integrated with major EHR systems and a wide set of healthcare workflow tools. The company reports millions of users connecting daily and holds over 110 patents. Vidyo plans to use the latest funding to accelerate growth in vertical markets and expand its healthcare deployments. Vidyo offers the VidyoWorks platform and APIs, leveraging Scalable Video Coding (SVC) and the patented VidyoRouter to deliver scalable video conferencing and integration into workflows and devices. The company supplies video infrastructure and products such as VidyoRoom systems and personal telepresence for markets including banking, healthcare, government and enterprise. Vidyo reports deployments with capacity exceeding hundreds of millions of minutes per year in some networks and more than 1,200 VidyoRoom systems in others. It holds more than 60 patents issued and patents pending across 65 patent families. Vidyo positions its technology to enable integration of visual communications into electronic medical records and new connected devices, targeting broader adoption as the Internet of Things expands. The company will use newly raised funds for sales and market development to broaden adoption of the VidyoWorks platform. Vidyo develops software-based video conferencing that lets customers use existing room systems (Cisco, Polycom, Lifesize, H.323/SIP), Microsoft Lync clients, and mobile devices. Its approach targets lower-cost alternatives to hardware-based incumbents and supports virtualized deployments on off-the-shelf equipment. The company reported year-over-year billings growth of 68% in 2012, with sales up 77% in both healthcare and education verticals. Vidyo has more than 250 employees across 13 global offices and holds 26 issued patents with 56 pending. With the new funding, the company plans to continue growing its engineering team and expand worldwide, and it recently struck a distribution deal with education consortium Internet2. Vidyo builds video conferencing software that uses H.264 Scalable Video Coding (SVC) to deliver high-quality calls even on constrained mobile networks. It sells some conferencing equipment directly to enterprises and has a large and growing OEM licensing business with partners including Google, Ricoh and Hitachi. The company announced a strategic investment from Juniper Networks via the Junos Innovation Fund; terms of that investment were not disclosed. The Juniper investment could foreshadow a closer partnership or a possible acquisition and potential integration of Vidyo’s technology into Juniper networking equipment. Vidyo is headquartered in Hackensack, New Jersey, operates 12 other offices and has about 225 employees. Since its founding in 2005 the company has raised about $100 million in total funding. Vidyo pioneers personal telepresence with a software-based communication and collaboration platform that spans immersive rooms, desktops, tablets and smartphones. Its VidyoRouter is built on a patented Adaptive Video Layering architecture that leverages H.264 Scalable Video Coding to eliminate the MCU and provide error resiliency, low latency and rate matching over Internet, LTE, 3G and 4G networks. The platform includes gateways that interoperate with H.323 and SIP endpoints and supports cloud-based broadcast solutions. Vidyo holds 9 awarded patents and has 27 patents pending, and has received industry recognition including Best of Interop, Frost & Sullivan and Wall Street Journal honors. The company plans to use the new funding to expand sales and marketing globally to address demand for flexible, scalable telepresence across devices. Since its founding in 2005, Vidyo has raised $97 million in total capital.
