Vima Therapeutics

Overview

Vima Therapeutics is a Cambridge, Massachusetts–based clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on addressing movement disorders by targeting their underlying biology. Its lead asset, VIM0423, is a once-daily oral compound designed to selectively modulate muscarinic cholinergic receptors to correct the dopamine–acetylcholine imbalance implicated in dystonia and Parkinson’s disease. A two-part Phase 1 study showed VIM0423 was well tolerated, exceeded target exposure levels, and demonstrated a favorable safety profile over 28 days in healthy volunteers and dystonia patients. The company has now dosed the first participant in a Phase 2 trial for isolated dystonia and plans to start a parallel Phase 2 study in Parkinson’s disease in mid-2026, with topline data from both studies expected in the first half of 2027. VIM0423 holds FDA Fast Track designation for isolated dystonia, which affects more than 160,000 people in the U.S. Financially, Vima has secured up to $100 million through its Series A financing, providing runway to complete both Phase 2 trials. Founded and incubated at Atlas Venture by physicians and scientists specializing in movement disorders, the company leverages an exclusive worldwide license from Children’s Mercy for certain antimuscarinic compounds.
