Vinebox is a Y Combinator-backed San Francisco company that offers 100ml single-serve premium wine samples by subscription. Its core product is a rolling subscription (quarterly and annual) delivering small, lab-style bottles to help consumers discover small-lot wineries. A quarterly subscription is $78 and includes nine samples plus $15 off full-bottle purchases; the company says it has shipped one million glasses to date. Vinebox is also developing multi-packs under the Usual brand (6-, 12-, and 24-packs) — a 12-pack is priced at $96 — and currently sells a Sonoma red blend and a Santa Barbara rosé. The founders, Rachel Vodofsky and Matt Dukes, began the business after careers as corporate lawyers and a period of wine study in France. With its recent funding, Vinebox plans to grow its team and further scale online distribution to put more single-serve bottles into consumers' hands and reshape attitudes toward single-serve wine.
