SkySquirrel develops drone-based imaging hardware, a cloud-based image-processing service, and an unmanned aircraft system to monitor crop health and detect vineyard diseases. Its technology focuses on detecting stubborn viruses such as leafroll disease and flavescence dorée and on improving crop yields. The company bundles multi-spectral imaging equipment tailored for drones with cloud analytics and autonomous mission-capable aircraft. SkySquirrel is already selling products in Canada, France, Spain, Switzerland, Chile and China. It has a partnership with VineView that gives it exclusive access to image-processing capabilities for vineyard disease detection. Led by co-founder and CEO Richard Van der Put, the company intends to use new funds to launch a next-generation product before the current year’s growing season and to enter new markets.
