Overview
VirionHealth Ltd is a Coventry, UK-based biotechnology company developing novel therapeutics for respiratory viral infections. Founded in 2017 from research by Professors Nigel Dimmock and Andrew Easton at the University of Warwick’s School of Life Sciences, the company is developing broad-spectrum therapies intended to combat multiple viruses with a single agent. Its technology initially focuses on influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and aims to simplify and accelerate treatment by removing the need for differential diagnosis. VirionHealth raised up to £13m in a Series A funding round led by Abingworth to advance its programs into the clinic. The company intends to use the funds to move its novel programs into clinical development. The board and management were strengthened with Jeffrey Almond joining as chairman and Nicola Thompson as CEO, alongside other industry veterans and Abingworth advisors.
