Overview
VisionCare Ophthalmic Technologies develops, manufactures and markets implantable ophthalmic devices designed to improve vision and quality of life for individuals with untreatable retinal disorders. Its flagship product is the Implantable Miniature Telescope, a visual prosthesis invented by founders Yossi Gross and Dr. Isaac Lipshitz intended for patients with end-stage age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Led by CEO Allen W. Hill, the company plans to use new capital to launch the telescope prosthesis for end-stage AMD and to commercialize it in the United States followed by other markets. VisionCare also intends to develop its sales and marketing capabilities and to continue R&D on new visual prosthetic devices for severe retinal disorders. The company closed a $31M Series E financing to fund these activities. As part of the financing, Elka Nir of Giza Ventures will join VisionCare’s board of directors.
