Vitagene is a San Francisco-based health technology company that provides personalized supplementation regimens to members through partnering physicians. Its service generates actionable reports via a web-based dashboard driven by a proprietary algorithm that analyzes patient DNA, lab results, lifestyle information and a knowledge base of research data. The company plans to use the newly raised funds to hire across sales and marketing and to build customized engagement programs for users and physician partners. Vitagene raised $5.5M in seed funding led by Spectrum 28, with participation from Viking Global Investors and individual investors including Neil Hunt, Ken Goldman and Yuri Milner. Led by CEO and co-founder Mehdi Maghsoodnia, Vitagene was selected by Illumina Accelerator in December 2015 to receive seed investment for six months. The company's model bridges genomic and clinical data to inform supplementation, delivered through physicians who receive reports to guide patient care.
