Overview

Vivid Money is a mobile-first financial super app that combines basic checking and money-management services with stock and cryptocurrency investing. The platform offers a Visa debit card, the ability to split funds into up to 15 "pockets," and access to about 50 cryptocurrencies and 3,000 stocks and ETFs, including SPACs. Vivid is active in Germany, France, Spain and Italy and plans to add five more markets this year, aiming to be available across all of Europe by the end of 2023. The company is rolling out insurance offerings and plans to introduce its first credit products later this year. Vivid runs its banking on Solarisbank infrastructure while building its own personalized money-management and investment features. Launched in 2020, the startup reports 500,000 customers, a five-fold user-base increase since its prior round, revenues that have grown 25x, and a target of reaching 1 million users by year-end. Vivid Money offers banking services built on Solarisbank, providing users a German IBAN, a metal card (with card details only in-app), and app controls such as locking and Apple/Google Pay. Customers can hold dozens of currencies, pay abroad with a small exchange-rate mark-up, and create sub-accounts called pockets — each pocket has its own IBAN and can include other users. The app includes commission-free stock and ETF trading with fractional shares and crypto trading through a partnership with CM Equity AG, plus a cashback program and a €9.90/month premium tier with higher withdrawal limits, virtual cards and better rewards. The company positions itself as a Revolut competitor tailored for the Eurozone and has rapidly added many features. Following the new funding, Vivid Money has substantial cash on its bank account and a post-money valuation of $436 million (€360 million). Vivid Money is a young German fintech challenger bank built on top of Solarisbank for its banking infrastructure and only began accepting customers a few months before the article. The app issues a current account and a metal debit card that can be controlled (locked/unlocked) from the app and works with Apple Pay and Google Pay. Users can create sub-accounts called pockets, each with its own IBAN, invite others to pockets, and associate or order additional physical or virtual cards. The startup analyzes transactions to identify recurring subscriptions and lets users block future charges; it also supports peer-to-peer payments and payment links. The app includes cash-back features with partner brands and plans to add the ability to buy shares and ETFs soon. There are two plans: a free tier and a premium subscription at €9.90/month with higher cash-back and withdrawal limits and a free virtual card for prime users; additional physical cards cost €20 and virtual cards €1.
