Volantis develops photonically integrated computers that replace traditional chip interconnects with on-chip optical channels to boost bandwidth and efficiency for AI workloads. Its architecture uses direct laser modulation and wafer-scale integration to couple low-cost, low-power lasers into densely parallel optical waveguides. The company says this approach delivers up to 15x better performance per dollar while lowering power consumption and improving stability versus silicon photonics. Volantis has built working, patent-pending prototypes within two years and holds multiple pending patents on its architecture. The team includes engineers from Ayar Labs, Lightmatter, Marvell, Rockley, Infinera and others. The company will use the $9M seed to refine its chip architecture, expand its engineering team, and begin early customer engagements.
