Voltaix
197 Meister Avenue, North Branch, NJ, 08876, United States
Overview
Voltaix manufactures electronic chemicals and gases used in semiconductor manufacturing processes at integrated circuit fabs worldwide. The company also supplies deposition precursors for production of advanced photovoltaic cells. Its products have applications in semiconductor logic and memory devices and are expected to enable next-generation flat panel display, LED, MEMS and power electronics advancements and cost reductions. Voltaix said it will use proceeds from the financing to continue building worldwide infrastructure and to accelerate its new product pipeline development. Founded in 1986 and led by Dr. Peter Smith, the company employs over 150 people across sites in North Branch, NJ; High Springs, FL; Portland, PA; and Yeongi-gun, Choongchungnam-do, South Korea. Voltaix supplies specialty materials designed to improve the performance of semiconductor chips and solar cells. The company received $10M in equity financing from MissionPoint Capital Partners to support growth. The financing will be used to significantly increase production and development capabilities and to expand activity in Asian markets. Voltaix’s investor base also includes Intel Capital and Novus Energy Partners. Founded in 1986, the company operates sites in North Branch, New Jersey, and High Springs, Florida, and employs approximately 100 people. The capital infusion is intended to accelerate manufacturing and development while supporting geographic expansion. Voltaix manufactures high-purity gases and chemicals used in semiconductor chip processing and produces CVD precursors for thin-film solar cells. The company received a $12.5 million investment from Intel Capital and said it will use the funds to accelerate its manufacturing capacity expansion. That expansion is aimed at serving both chipmakers and the growing thin-film solar market. Deutsche Bank estimates thin-film solar cell production will increase four-fold from 2007 to 2010, providing market context for the planned scaling. Voltaix was spun off as an independent business in 1986 from the ChemOvonic Division of Energy Conversion Devices and is based in Branchburg, N.J. It competes with a variety of other companies in the chip material and equipment industries.
