Vopium is a Copenhagen-based VoIP technology company founded in 2006. Its core product is a free mobile application that enables low-cost international calls, offers IM support and free calls to Skype, Google Gtalk and other Vopium users. The app supports Android, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile and Apple devices (including iPhone and iPod touch) and works on over 900 handsets from makers such as Nokia, Sony-Ericsson, Samsung, HTC and Motorola. Vopium reports 1 million downloads and says 250,000 users in 49 countries are currently using the solution, with biggest markets in Scandinavia, the UK and Australia. The company plans to use new funding to expand internationally and compete with Skype. An investor quoted expectations of reaching 10 million users in a few years.
