VouchedFor is a professional advice platform that helps consumers find financial and legal advisers by matching them through more than 35,000 carefully vetted client reviews and consumer data. Its membership includes over 7,500 independent financial advisers, mortgage advisers, solicitors and accountants in the UK. The company was founded in 2012 and is led by CEO Adam Price, with Barney Jones (Sales & Marketing Director), James Gellately Smith (CTO), Chris Burke (CCO) and Alex Whitson (CMO) on the leadership team. VouchedFor will use new funding to invest in its technology and marketing platform. It closed a $5.4M (approx. £3.5M) Series A led by Octopus Investments with participation from Samos Investments. The funding is intended to support technology and marketing initiatives to further develop the product and expand customer outreach. VouchedFor operates a marketplace and reviews site that helps users find, rate and review Independent Financial Advisors (IFAs). Any UK-based IFA can be reviewed in an unverified capacity and later claim their profile; IFAs can also register with the site to appear as verified. The company charges IFAs a subscription for premium profile features and takes a small commission for lead generation, and the article notes it can be presumed to be generating revenue. Since launching last September the startup says it has signed up just over 500 registered IFAs. As part of its growth activity it offers to donate £4 to Financial Education charity MyBnk for every review added. VouchedFor positions itself to benefit from regulatory changes pushing transparency in UK wealth management that favor independent advisors.
