The product has top app-store rankings in multiple countries and reports ‘‘double digit millions’’ of monthly unique users. The company holds several voice-related patents and has deep expertise in Node.js, which it uses heavily. Voxer was conceived by founder Tom Katis during his time in the Special Forces and has been operating for about five years. Management plans to use new funding to scale infrastructure and hire more engineers, particularly from the Node.js community. The long-term ambition includes building a large standalone business and potentially pursuing an IPO with follow-on support from investors.
