Overview
Voyagin Pte. Ltd. operates a C2C marketplace that enables travelers to discover and book travel experiences across Asia. Led by Director and CEO Masashi Takahashi, the platform allows local businesses and individuals to develop tours and activities. It currently features over 1,700 activities, including museum and show tickets, cultural activities, romantic dinners, adventure experiences and private guides. Services are bookable at more than 50 destinations in Asia via a mobile-optimized website available in English, Japanese and Chinese (traditional/simplified). Through the Rakuten investment, Voyagin will be added to Rakuten Travel and support efforts to strengthen inbound tourism in Japan, with a focus on visitors from Southeast Asia. The amount of the transaction was not disclosed. Voyagin operates an online marketplace that connects travelers with local hosts offering food, cultural, and off-the-beaten-track experiences in Japan, India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. The site launched last December and the company was originally called FindJPN after starting in the Open Network Lab incubator. Listings are free for hosts; Voyagin takes a 15% commission plus a $3 service fee on bookings. The company reports about 400 listings, roughly 8,000 unique visitors per month, and several bookings per day. Voyagin says it has met about 90% of its hosts in person and provides in-depth activity information in English. One of its stated goals is to expand offerings to more countries this year as the team grows.
