VYou is a shortform video Q&A platform that enables users to converse through brief video snippets. Since its November launch the site has accumulated over 20 million views and roughly 30,000 user sign-ups. The company has pursued media partnerships with Hearst Newspapers, MTV/VH1, Simon & Schuster and the Newark Peace Summit to help brands better connect with audiences. Founder Steve Spurgat says video was chosen to create more intimacy in how people communicate online. VYou plans to use the new financing to roll out key product features and build out its tech team. The team is positioning the product as a nimbler, more niche alternative to larger user-generated video platforms like YouTube.
